Bolham Fishing Syndicate

The Club Water at Bolham was originally part of the Worth Estate. When the Estate was split up the fishing was passed through various holding companies and eventually was purchased in 1987 by the original Bolham Fishing Syndicate. The fishing was split in to 2 beats, with the dividing point at Bolham Weir.  For the next 12 years the water was fished regularly and produced very good catches, with the years 1992,3 and 4 being particularly prolific. However from 1999 the syndicate lost some of its cohesion and the fishing began to decline. The bank maintenance was stopped and it was not regularly fished. Sadly the otherwise continuous catch records were stopped at this period and there are no catch records for the period from 1999 – 2007.

The New Era

In 2008 the syndicate has been revamped. The ownership structure has changed and this has enabled some much needed improvements to be carried out. While this is still a work in progress, much has been achieved. It is hoped that by the end of the 2008 season the banks will be in proper shape, with good access and fishing on both beats. The catch record has been restarted and there are signs that the fishing is as good as it ever was.  With the changes to the syndicate comes an opportunity; the formation of the Exe Bolham Fishing Club. This will allow members the chance to fish some of the finest water on the middle Exe, that has been previously very hard to access. The formation of the club will allow for greater investment in the water and hopefully good catches for members, and ongoing improvements.

It is not definitive and is in no way meant to stifle experimentation. While we prefer to fly fish we allow all legal methods on the beat, and many of the pools lend themselves to spinning.
